Supporting Researchers at Risk – Recent developments, what support is available, and what more can be done?

This webinar has taken place on Wednesday 1st March. Here is the recording of the webinar.

This webinar, a partnership between Vitae and the British Council was delivered through EURAXESS UK to consider the challenges for displaced researchers at risk and those who have refugee status, as a result of both the ongoing war in Ukraine and other international situations. It explored specific issues and drew on practice already underway in Europe across the EURAXESS network through ERA4Ukraine which supports refugee and displaced scientists/researchers to find roles that both improve their own situation and put their skills and experience to good use.

The speakers discussed how UK institutions can provide support that goes beyond funding and whether more could be done to support researchers at risk by sharing practice and experience. It also highlighted some of the activities and schemes that are available and consider individual lived experience of finding research opportunities in the UK.

The speakers also provided information to the audience on the Researchers at Risk Fellowships Programme established by the British Academy with Cara (the Council for At-Risk Academics), with the support of the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society.

This webinar was for anyone with an interest in supporting this cohort of researchers including those working within higher education institutions and individuals/representatives from other countries who want to know more about support, and those in the UK.
