Visiting the UK for research
If you are visiting the UK to carry out research as a academic or student (including PhD students), you should read this overview of current guidance.
Visiting the UK as an academic
If you are planning to give lectures or be an examiner for a fee, attend a meeting, conference or workshop, do site visits, negotiate deals or sign contracts, or complete research or a short study course you may require a Standard Visitor visa if your trip is less than 6 months, depending on your circumstances. All academic visits lasting longer than 6 months require a visa, regardless of your nationality.

Short Paid Engagement Trip

You will need to be able to provide written invitation from a UK-based organisation or client of a pre-arranged event, plus be able to show you’re an expert in your profession.
Business visitor

Short Period of Study

Longer term or paid visits
